Independent Car Rental Agencies in Miami: Local Alternatives to the Big Brands

Most visitors rent from one of the national brands inside the airport’s Rental Car Center. Miami also has a group of long-running independent agencies, most of them clustered just outside Miami International Airport, and they are worth a look before you book.

This guide lists local agencies we could verify, explains how pickup works when a company is not in the Rental Car Center, and gives you the questions to ask. Addresses, phone numbers and services come from each company’s own website, checked in October 2026.

Why rent from an independent agency

  • Different cars. Local agencies are where you find Jeep Wranglers, convertibles, 15-passenger vans, late-model Toyotas, and luxury and exotic cars.
  • Pickup that comes to you. Several offer free pickup from the airport, a hotel or a repair shop.
  • Flexibility on age. Some list rates for drivers aged 21 to 24. Expect a surcharge.
  • A person who answers the phone. You are usually dealing with the office that owns the car.

The trade-offs are real too. Hours can be shorter than the national counters, mileage may be capped on specialty cars, and policies on tolls, deposits and insurance differ from one agency to the next. Ask before you sign.

How airport pickup works

Independent agencies are not inside the MIA Rental Car Center. Each one handles arrivals its own way: a shuttle, a driver who meets you, or delivery of the car.

Confirm three things when you book:

  1. Where exactly you will be picked up, and whether you should take the MIA Mover or stay at the terminal.
  2. The number to call when you land.
  3. The office hours, in case your flight is late.

Independent agencies in and near Miami

Champion Auto Rental

5825 NW 167th St, Hialeah, FL 33015
(305) 825-9900 or toll free (800) 779-8696
championautorental.com

Champion rents Toyotas only, from the Camry and RAV4 to the Highlander, Sienna minivan, Tacoma and Tundra. It offers free local customer pickup, including from Miami International and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International airports, and delivers between Homestead and West Palm Beach, sometimes for a fee.

It also serves private flyers at Opa-locka Executive Airport. See our guide to car rental at Opa-locka airport. If your own car is in the shop after an accident, Champion handles insurance replacement rentals and says most insurers pay it directly.

Miami Rent A Car

3990 NW 26th St, Miami, FL 33142
(305) 871-9789
miamirentacar.com

A few minutes from the airport, Miami Rent A Car covers the widest range on this list: standard cars, SUVs, minivans, 15-passenger vans, Jeep Wranglers, convertibles, and luxury and exotic models. Its booking form lists rates for drivers 21 to 24 as well as 25 and up.

For airport arrivals, the company asks you to call the office after you collect your luggage so it can send a driver. Its office is not in the Rental Car Center, so do not ride the MIA Mover there. Luxury and specialty cars booked on its website include 150 free miles a day.

Ventura Rent-A-Car

Main location across the street from Miami International Airport
(786) 999-6532 or toll free (877) 599-0797
venturarentacar.com

Ventura focuses on luxury and exotic cars, with a fleet that runs from Mustang and Camaro convertibles to Porsche, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce. It delivers to hotels in Miami, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale, lists pickup points at both airports and both cruise ports, and says it is open around the clock.

Miami Luxury Auto Rent

6903 NW 43rd St, Suite B, Miami, FL 33166
(786) 350-8800
miamiluxuryautorent.com

Another luxury and exotic specialist. Its website names Mercedes-Benz convertibles, Corvette, BMW, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini, Range Rover and the Cadillac Escalade. The company picks clients up from Miami International Airport or from hotels in Miami and Miami Beach.

A related booking site, Luxury Cars Rentals Miami, lists exotic, luxury, SUV and convertible categories with pickup points that include Miami airport, Miami Beach, PortMiami, Fort Lauderdale and Port Everglades.

What to ask before you book

  1. What is the total, with every fee and tax? Compare totals, never daily rates.
  2. How does pickup work, and what are your hours?
  3. Is mileage unlimited? If not, what is the daily allowance and the charge per extra mile?
  4. How are tolls billed? Policies vary most among local agencies. Our guide to rental car tolls in Miami explains the fee types.
  5. What deposit or card hold do you take, and do you accept debit cards?
  6. What insurance do you require, and what proof do you need?
  7. What is your policy for drivers under 25?

Frequently asked questions

Are independent car rental agencies in Miami cheaper?

Sometimes. Agencies outside the airport do not have the same facility costs as the companies in the Rental Car Center, and some pass that on. The only reliable test is the total price for your dates. Our tips for saving money on a Miami car rental show what to compare.

Do independent agencies pick up at Miami airport?

Many do. Champion, Miami Rent A Car, Ventura and Miami Luxury Auto Rent all describe airport pickup or delivery on their websites. Arrange it when you book.

Can I rent from a local agency if I am under 25?

Often, yes. Several local booking forms list a 21 to 24 age option. Expect a daily surcharge and limits on the most expensive cars.

Are the national brands a better choice?

They are simpler for late-night arrivals, one-way rentals and loyalty points. The MIA Rental Car Center guide lists who is on site.

The bottom line

Independent agencies give you choices the big counters do not, especially for specialty cars and personal pickup. Compare the total price, confirm how you will get the car, and get the mileage, toll and deposit terms in writing.
