Our top picks of Miami neighborhoods for aspiring artists

Relocating is challenging for everyone. Before you can transfer to Miami and loudly announce that you live there, you must arrange and prepare everything. But before that, you have to choose where you want to live. Therefore, here are a few of the most popular Miami neighborhoods for aspiring artists on the rise.

Brickell

It is frequently considered one of Miami’s best areas for artists. There are many businesses, fantastic dining options, and a large population. It is a lively and trendy metro district in Downtown Miami.

Because it sits on the sea-facing Brickell Key, rent is a bit pricey for artists. Still, residents enjoy international shopping, dining, a bustling city life, and spectacular waterfront views. Brickell is conveniently located near Miami’s public trolley and Metrorail, all of which stop in downtown Brickell and provide easy public transportation.

Wynwood

Wynwood is at the heart of the city’s developing arts community as the host of Art Basel Miami. Formerly a desolate industrial district, Wynwood has been revived as Miami’s cultural center. The area is overflowing with artists and graphic designers, encouraged by the low rent. There are over 70 galleries, collections, and museums in the area.

An artist holding a tablet and a pen, making a work in progress

It’s a region in New York City located north of Wynwood and is a small creative hotspot. Dozens of art galleries, shops, and antique merchants line the streets. The Design District, which has a spirit akin to SoHo in New York City, is a favorite spot among artisans, particularly designers and architects. Having a Miami flat within the Design District means being well located for easy access to the area’s numerous prominent pubs and restaurants, including eateries owned by culinary geniuses.

Due to the practically constant presence of vivid street art, many characterize Wynwood as an external museum of art. Pop-up events and exhibitions flourish during the annual Art Basel festival. Wynwood is currently enjoying a revolution, making it an excellent location for artists looking to find a Miami apartment.

It’s unthinkable to become bored in Miami since there’s always something fresh to see. While walls and pop-ups in Wynwood are continuously changing, The Margulies Collection at the WAREhOUSE is one installation that has weathered the test of time. The 45,000 ft² renovated warehouse contains numerous artworks, sculptures, and multimedia installations to rejuvenate the creative side of any artist.

South beach

Much of South Beach’s art deco architecture has been intact. Enjoy the pastel colors and geometric shapes influenced by multiple artistic styles as you stroll down Ocean Drive. Go to the shore for some great people-watching or to cleanse your thoughts so you can be more creative. Also, South Beach is one of the best neighborhoods for single people.

If that is too far away for you and you do not have a car, it is possible to rent one easily in Miami. Even though it is close to Miami, it feels like a world apart from the city’s bustle and parties. It is why it might be suitable for people who are nearing retirement.

Moreover, it provides a broad range of outdoor recreational activities such as cycling, windsurfing, tennis, golf, fishing, kiteboarding, and sailing. In case you want to stroll and relax, there are two state parks and calm beaches with palm trees, bike lanes, and restaurants. However, before choosing the best places to retire in the Miami area, it would be good to think about how you plan to get there. Since no relocation is easy, you might want to let professionals do the job for you. If you are wondering how to execute the relocation, you can always hire moving teams such as getmovedtoday.com. One suggestion to make your relocation smooth is to handle the packing process right away. Since it is the most time-consuming part, packing requires your attention as soon as possible. Then, you could focus on other essential aspects of your move.

When it comes to taxes and retirement, Florida is a welcoming state for seniors.

Once again, some help will be needed in order to move to your new home. Thus, hire reliable Highland Beach movers right away and start on the right foot. Senior moves are always more challenging considering people’s age and health-related issues.

Bay Harbor Islands is a small, charming neighborhood connected to the mainland of Miami. There are lots of wonderful retail and eating options in the middle of town. Moreover, Bay Harbor Islands are a pair of islands floating in the center of Biscayne Bay. This place is well-known for its slow pace of life and a large number of families. Go out to eat with your dog

Among other pet-friendly spots in Miami, we’d like to draw attention to all of the city’s dog-friendly restaurants. Particularly popular are Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, which serves complimentary, house-made dog biscuits along with their meals, and LoKal Burgers & Beer, where you can find a doggie menu that includes chicken and rice and meatloaf. Kush Hospitality also offers menus specially prepared for dogs. Ms. Cheezious and The Grove are also worth mentioning. Out of all of the fun things to do with your dog in Miami, hitting the beach might be the most common and relaxing one. Most beaches in Miami allow dogs, and you can take them there to have fun all day. However, the most popular choice for dog owners is Hobie Beach. Why? Because there’s no admission fee, dogs can run without a leash, and they are allowed at all hours. So, if you want to spend a whole day at the beach with your dog, Hobie Beach is probably the best choice. However, remember that even some spots which don’t allow dogs are worth exploring for yourself. Some of the top 10 attractions in Miami don’t allow dogs, but they are still worth the visit if you can find the time.

Throughout Miami, you can find small and large shops with plenty to offer for you and your dog. Dog toys, leashes, and other equipment can all be found in these spots. Although, it should be noted that experts from orangemover.com recommend you keep your dog’s old toys while they get used to the new environment when moving to Miami. Among the other options, Lincoln Road Mall is a popular choice. It’s an outdoor shopping area where dogs are allowed in at all times. Alternatively, if your tastes are a bit more expensive, the Bal Harbour Shopping Center is also very dog friendly. And, it has more upscale shops.

Go to the park

When it comes to fun things to do with your dog in Miami, it’s hard to beat going to the park. Most parks in Miami are dog-friendly, and there are dog parks that are shaded and have areas for both big and small dogs. Additionally, going to dog parks is a great way to make friends and meet people who also love dogs. South Pointe Park is popular because it has an area where your dog can run off-leash. Pellegrino Puts Innovation into Culinary World with New Type of Cuisine

To make a splash in the culinary world, a chef must do more than follow a Menu or do what is expected. No one transcends these boundaries more than Carla Pellegrino, also known on her website as Chef Carla.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Pellegrino learned to cook in the second-generation Italian kitchen of her mother. Cooking led naturally to Carla’s love of helping her family prepare food for their catering business. Schooled, in this way, she learned how to make traditional Brazilian, Italian and Portuguese cuisine. By 16, the family shifted lifestyles and moved to Liguria, Italia, where a small family store replaced the catering business. Here, Carla gave cooking demonstrations for whoever wished to attend and would go on to found myriad Bratalian Restaurants, a combination of Brazilian and Italian cuisine.

A long journey in cooking led her far from either of her exotic home cities before she returned to Rio de Janeiro to open her Baldoria Restaurant, in New York’s theater district, where she earned a reputation in creative excellence. An education at the French Culinary Institute in New York, where 13 years ago, she graduated cum laude.

By 2011, a decade later, Pellegrino had already settled on combining Brazilian and Italian cuisine with distinctive flair and creative innovation. These attributes carried her into the place of offering a new venue, Bratalian Neopolitan Cantina. Naples, Italy, one of the renowned places in the world for excellent cuisine combined with her Rio de Janeiro roots to catapult her to award-winning status and reviews in the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s “Best of Las Vegas, 2012” and “Best of Henderson, 2011-2012.” Pellegrino also went on to host and display at the James Beard House, a prestigious stop for world-renowned chefs.

It is, perhaps, a stop in Las Vegas at the Rao’s Las Vegas, her venue there that she opened in 2006, that has sealed her success. It was there that she began playing with the dazzling array of combinations with straight Italian recipes, Recipes & cooking tips, to blast beyond pasta and into a combination of Brazilian and Italian approaches and influences. An emphasis on fresh and original met her need for constant consistent results, and a new flair was unveiled and achieved.

“As a chef, I am conscious of cooking healthy food while making sure that I keep Italian cuisine authentic. Italian food is not only about pasta, cheese and heavy cream; authentic Italian cuisine is based upon fresh ingredients made from scratch, lots of seafood, grilled chops, oven-roasted fishes and vegetables cooked in every flavorful way possible,” Pellegrino says on her website, http://www.chefcarlapellegrino.com.

I’ll be heading to Miami for 10 months in February to open a new place. It’s a chance to do a fine dining establishment, and I am excited about it,” she tells the Las Vegas Sun.

Help keep Clean Our Bay – A Biscayne Bay Project

Love and Care for  Biscayne Bay in Miami Florida

A project by Jesus Portomene, a professional photographer and video producer in Miami Florida.
(Our Biscayne Bay, its being threatened by an invasion of trash that is polluting its waters)

We want to use to illustrate our objectives and motivations, among other imaging and data, the story of a day, at our favorite beach in the Bay. How after we set down the cooler and unfolded the beach chairs, the smell of a large goat in a state of decomposition ruined our plan for a perfect day on the beach. We will show in our video why a goat isn’t part of the picture, and it certainly couldn’t have paid the toll on the way to the beach!

But eating is not everything Little Havana is about. You’ll have the chance to stop at a Cuban gift shop, check in on the cigar rollers of the area, stops at local art galleries, cheer on the domino experts holding court at Domino Park and take a stroll near the Tower Theater, the area’s oldest movie houses.

We will stop to try Traditional Cuban cuisine at multiple stops, and tell you all you need to know about it: history, tradition and just how some became Miami’s favorite comfort foods.

Food Tour Highlights

“OUTSTANDING!!! Miami Culinary Tours in South Beach”

This is our second tour with this company (we took the one in Little Havana back in Memorial weekend) and I have to say that it was outstanding. We landed in Miami Friday afternoon and contacted the company owner right away asking for 5 spots for that same night. She graciously told us about the tour and that they did have room for us…GREAT! We showed at the meeting location and the tour guide was there on time (Leilani). She was VERY professional and very knowledgeable about Miami.[Read More]

“Fun and Yummy Tour”

We loved this tour! The food was great and the education about the history and buildings was very interesting. We would definetly do this again!

One tip – do wear comfortable shoes. Our tour lasted almost three hours and although I don’t think we covered more than 3 miles, we did stand a good deal of the time.

MIA Rental Car Center: How to Pick Up and Return a Car at Miami Airport

Most cars rented at Miami International Airport are picked up in one building: the MIA Rental Car Center. It is not in the terminal, but getting there is free and takes only a few minutes.

This guide walks through pickup and return, lists the companies on site, and flags the things that trip up first-time visitors. Details were checked against the airport’s website in October 2026.

Where it is

MIA Rental Car Center 3900 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33142

The center sits just east of the terminals and is part of the Miami Intermodal Center, the airport’s ground transportation hub. The same complex holds the airport’s Metrorail and Tri-Rail stations, so it is also where you catch a train or bus.

How to get there from your flight

  1. Collect your bags at baggage claim.
  2. Go up to the third level of the terminal.
  3. Follow the signs along the moving walkways to the MIA Mover station, between the Dolphin and Flamingo parking garages.
  4. Ride the MIA Mover to the Rental Car Center. It is free and drops you at the customer service lobby.

Signs for “MIA Mover” and “Rental Car Center” start at baggage claim. If you have a lot of luggage, grab a cart before you head up.

Rental companies at the center

The airport lists these companies inside the Rental Car Center:

  • ACE Rent A Car
  • Alamo
  • Avis
  • Budget
  • Carnival Rent A Car
  • Dollar
  • Enterprise
  • Hertz
  • National
  • Payless
  • Royal
  • Sixt
  • Thrifty

Off-site companies

A number of other agencies operate near the airport rather than inside the center, including Fox, Easirent, Green Motion, NU Car Rentals and U-Save. On request, they pick customers up right outside the Rental Car Center lobby. If you booked one of these, call when you arrive at the lobby and confirm exactly where to wait.

The roster and phone numbers are on the airport’s rental car page. That list was last updated in December 2022, so confirm the pickup location shown in your own reservation.

Hours, and the late-flight problem

The Rental Car Center building is open 24 hours a day. The counters inside are another matter. The airport notes that some companies close between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.

If your flight lands late:

  • Check your company’s counter hours before you book, not after.
  • Put your flight number in the reservation so the counter knows about delays.
  • If you are delayed past closing, call the local number, not the national reservation line.

At the counter

A few things speed up pickup and prevent problems later:

  • Bring the right card. The renter’s name must match the driver’s license and the credit card. Debit card policies vary by company, and some require extra documents or a larger hold.
  • Ask about tolls. The expressways next to the airport are cashless, and every company handles tolls differently. Read our guide to rental car tolls in Miami before you get to the counter.
  • Check the insurance you already have. Your own auto policy or credit card may cover a rental. Know the answer before you are asked.
  • Photograph the car. Walk around it before leaving the garage and take pictures of every panel, the wheels, the windshield and the fuel gauge.

Driving out

Two toll roads sit right outside the center: the Dolphin Expressway (SR 836) toward downtown and Miami Beach, and the Airport Expressway (SR 112) toward I-95. Neither accepts cash.

If you want to avoid tolls, set your navigation app to “avoid tolls” before you leave the garage. If you are new to driving here, Driving in Miami: 7 Fast Facts You Need to Know is worth five minutes.

Returning your car

  1. Navigate to 3900 NW 25th Street and follow the “Rental Car Return” signs. The airport publishes driving directions to the center.
  2. Follow the signs for your company to its return lane.
  3. Wait for an agent to check the car in, and get a receipt, on paper or by email, before you walk away.
  4. Take the MIA Mover back to the terminal.

Allow extra time. Between refueling, the return, the MIA Mover and the walk to your check-in counter, leave at least 30 minutes on top of the time you would normally arrive for your flight, and more at peak hours.

Refuel before you get close. Gas stations nearest the airport tend to charge the most, so fill up a few miles out.

Not renting? Other ways out of the airport

The Miami Intermodal Center next to the Rental Car Center is also the airport’s transit hub, reached by the same free MIA Mover:

  • Metrorail Orange Line to downtown and Brickell for $2.25.
  • Miami Beach Airport Express (Route 150) to Miami Beach every 30 minutes for $2.25.
  • Tri-Rail to Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.
  • The free City of Miami trolley, on the Flagami route.

Our guide to public transportation in Miami covers these in detail. Taxis and rideshares pick up at the terminal.

Frequently asked questions

Is the MIA Rental Car Center inside the airport?

It is on airport property but in a separate building. The free MIA Mover connects it to the terminal.

Is the MIA Mover free?

Yes. There is no charge to ride between the terminal and the Rental Car Center.

Is the Miami airport Rental Car Center open 24 hours?

The building is, but individual rental counters are not all open overnight. Some close between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., so confirm with your company.

Where do I return a rental car at Miami airport?

At the Rental Car Center, 3900 NW 25th Street. Follow the “Rental Car Return” signs to your company’s lane, then ride the MIA Mover to the terminal.

Can I return my rental car and go straight to the cruise port?

Yes. Return the car at the Rental Car Center, then take a rideshare or taxi to PortMiami. See our guide to getting to PortMiami from the airports.

The bottom line

Picking up at the MIA Rental Car Center is simple once you know the route: third level, MIA Mover, lobby. The parts that cost people money are the ones outside the building, such as tolls, late counter hours and fuel, so sort those out before you land.

Details were checked against Miami International Airport sources in October 2026. Rental companies and hours change, so confirm with yours.
