Say It With A Gift Basket
The business of gift baskets, is big one to say the least. With billions of dollars in annual sales, this thriving industry shows no signs of slowing down. As the term implies, a gift basket is just that. A basket, in the literal sense, filled with gift items focused on a specific audience. As with all businesses there is a constant evolution. What started as a very traditional idea, has blossomed into an industry that caters to literally ever demographic you could imagine. After all. Who wouldn’t want a gift basket?
The appeal of a gift basket is obvious, and has no apparent boundaries in regards to the target market. It’s a gift that has the ability to say it all. Congratulations, sorry, missing you, happy for you, good luck, and good bye. That doesn’t even begin to cover the messages a gift basket can convey.
So what exactly is in a gift basket? What isn’t in a basket, would be a more appropriate question. Most everyone has seen a basket filled with gourmet foods like cheeses, fruits, meat, and the obligatory bottle of sparkling champagne or wine. Some people receive the valentine basket, filled with chocolate, plush toys, and all goodies that say, I love you. The concept is simple. If the recipient enjoys something, it can be delivered in a basket. As for evolution, the term basket has become a broad one. No longer is the typical woven container the only solution. From a sports bag to a tool box, if it has space inside, it qualifies as a basket.
One of the most appealing aspects of the industry is the relative ease of startup. Gift baskets are the perfect home based business, and that is evident given the fact that the majority are privately owned and operated. Additionally, the ability to purchase materials online offers flexibility to those with limited access to suppliers in their nearby area. Anyone with creativity, determination, and a clean kitchen table can start their own thriving enterprise.
Online support is also readily available for both startup and established business owners alike. From large clubs and organizations, to the smallest blog sites, there is no limit to industry related information. The future of the industry is most certainly a bright one. There are no limits in regards to customers, and certainly no limits in regards to entrepreneurs with new gift basket ideas.
